108 Sun Salutes for Autumn Equinox 2020

Intro

Welcome to the 108 Sun salute ritual page. We all know about 4 seasons and each one of them has been celebrated since ancient days.

So how is it relevant today? Well, principles have not changed. We all are still here just because of the light and warmth the Sun is providing us. Without Sun there would be no life (as we know it) here on Earth – no you, no me, no fruits, no plants no animals. Nothing. Would you agree that this deserves at least a bit of gratitude and appreciation from time to time? Imagine bringing a birthday present to your child. And instead of appreciation you get at best ignored or even mocked: “Is that it? What else you got for me?”. Not a nice thing to do, is it? And now imagine we have a similar relationship with the sun.Β

There are 2 solstices – marking the beginning of the summer and the winter accordingly. The summer solstice is the longest day of the year when Sun reaches the highest point in the sky. And the winter solstice is the shortest day and the lowest point. And there are 2 equinoxes: spring and autumn when night and day are the most equal length to each other of the year.

and a celebration ritual to express our gratitude for providing us with light, warmth and energy.

108 Sun Salutes is a wonderful practice to learn sync your breath with your movement. It also opens your mind to new possibilities and tests your will power and energizes you in the process.

Why would one practice Sun Salutations?

Β

To Honor the Sun

Sun is the light and energy source for life on earth. And it makes sense to have a small ritual, call it a sequence if you will, to honor this relationship.Β

Β

Why 108?

It’s a well know tradition and a sacred number in the yogic tradition. 😊

And for the rest of us, it is a nice looking number and big enough to make the practice exciting. πŸ˜‰

Invention of the light bulb purportedly took Thomas Edison 1,000 tries before he developed a successful prototype.

β€œHow did it feel to fail 1,000 times?” a reporter asked.

β€œI didn’t fail 1,000 times,” Edison responded. β€œThe light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”
